Both Deceased Students Revealed in Brown University Incident as Law Enforcement Continue Search for Gunman.

The pair of scholars who lost their lives in the recent violent attack on the university campus were being remembered Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their killer carried on following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also posted words of sorrow on social media, remarking: “It's indescribable. Remembering her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 arrested in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.

“There is a killer at large,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you must reassess and head another way, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our community”.

Police that raided the hotel recovered two firearms and magazines when the person of interest was detained, according to reports.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one pupil was discharged from care, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in grave but unchanging health, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

A private school, a independent school in the city of Durham, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Cook was honored at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only here growing up... but at Brown University she was a shining example in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the group. “Ella was known for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a tribute. “Our profound condolences go out to the Umurzokov family, friends, and fellow students and mourn the loss of his bright future.”
