Approximately 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland found themselves without power on Monday morning after powerful weather events swept through the region, producing powerful gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Substantial Hailstones and Broad Destruction

Locals observed giant hailstones as large as 7 centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with significant hail.

Utility workers were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units working to handle the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victoria's Weather Woes

Simultaneously, approximately 1,000 residents in Victoria also faced energy failures after the metropolitan area recorded its most precipitation in 18 months.

Emergency response teams responded to 598 emergency reports across the area, primarily for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

Most Impacted Areas

• Werribee - recorded considerable destruction
• Hoppers Crossing suburb - various assistance requests
• Wyndham region - nearly 180 emergency requests

At one point on yesterday, more than 28k energy customers in the state were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along large portions of Queensland's east this week as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

Tomorrow was expected to become the most rainy day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both areas.

Medical Alert

Public health experts alerted that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This alert comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
