Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “But I will say this, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning in the area between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a baby.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a new signing in March and was projected as a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He later played for Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
