Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his squad can continue to cope with fitness issues following confirming that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for the coming weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

The Germany international has been out since August following knee surgery. Originally slated to return sooner, the manager stated the player encountered a problem when increasing his recovery and could not progress “the required stage.”

“Our experience helped us build a team that is considerably steadier and has more options,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This development presents a tactical puzzle for the midweek match against Brentford. A decision is required between persisting with Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position last weekend, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench as a substitute. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is an option post-recovery.

Defensive Concerns Persist

More doubts involve centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Chelsea match. Consequently, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to start again in the backline for the table-toppers.

Arteta believes the significant outlay on squad depth during the summer has placed the club in a more robust situation to handle such setbacks.

Greater Options Key to Premier League Pursuit

Questioned if increased squad depth was aiding their league challenge, his response was positive. “Absolutely, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now what’s happening with the defence,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we have to use players in various roles, and they must be capable to adapt to new tasks if we are to fight at the top. And the case of Mikel is just the best one.”

Arteta's Support for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the setback highlighted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered more insight. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the required step and now it appears like we have solved that issue.”

The manager conveyed his keenness to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. Truly, it’s a player that, personally, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I watch him struggle on the sidelines.”

“His fitness history is phenomenal, he's usually fit, and I am eagerly awaiting to get him back involved on the pitch because I feel it’s going to be a huge lift.”
