More than 36,000 civilians have evacuated from Sudan's Kordofan region eastern sector of Darfur since Saturday, as stated by the UN's immigration body.

The important central zone between the country's Darfur areas and the Khartoum-Riverine region has over recent weeks become the latest battleground in the extended civil war between the Sudanese military forces and the paramilitary group.

Massive Exodus Figures

An estimated 36,825 people escaped five localities in North Kordofan province between 26 October and 31 October, according to the International Organization for Migration.

The people, primarily walking, traveled to Tawila, a town to the west of El Fasher that is currently sheltering over 652,000 evacuated individuals.

Escalated Military Presence

Local inhabitants of North Kordofan on Monday reported a significant increase in both RSF and army presence across urban and rural areas throughout the state.

Both armed factions are competing for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan state capital and a key logistics and command base that connects Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have gathered at the Bara front here," commented an RSF member in a recently circulated video statement.

Local Residents Report Security Concerns

A local inhabitant of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, reported that the number of RSF vehicles had grown considerably since the group's takeover of El Fasher.

"We discontinued traveling to our farms, fearing clashes," the local stated.

Another resident, who sought confidentiality for protection purposes, also reported that "there has been a significant rise in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the last fourteen days.

World Alarms and Appeals

A senior UN official sounded warnings last week about "extensive crimes" and "ethnically motivated reprisals" by RSF in Bara.

The official warned of patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF militants have been charged with mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against non-Arab ethnic groups.

The church leader on Sunday urged an quick cessation of hostilities and the creation of humanitarian corridors in Sudan, saying that attacks on civilians and impediments to humanitarian aid "are producing unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's ambassador to Egypt on Sunday charged RSF of carrying out war crimes in El Fasher and stated that the Sudanese government would not engage with the militia organization.

The diplomat further urged the global community to designate the group as a terrorist entity.
