New Year's Celebrants Told to Wrap Up Warm with Wintry Weather Forecast Throughout the UK
Forecasters have indicated a frosty commencement to the new year, with wintry precipitation anticipated throughout a lot of the UK. Those celebrating are being urged to wrap up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Festive Plans Go Ahead Despite Alerts
Edinburgh's renowned Hogmanay events are set to take place, unlike last year's cancellation. This comes despite yellow warnings for snow across northern Scotland.
"A chilly New Year's Eve night for those out celebrating, so additional clothing will be needed," stated the Met Office.
Celebrations Under Open but Frosty Skies
Across the UK, the weather is likely to be ideal for fireworks celebrations, with a lack of precipitation and good visibility. The mercury are expected to be cold, so extra layers a necessity, as per forecasters.
To the north, skies will be more overcast, but this is not anticipated to impact visibility for viewing fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Widespread Advisories for New Year's Day
As we enter Friday, weather warnings have been issued across Northern Ireland and from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and the majority of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Expected to Fall Even More
With the start of 2026, it will be "chilly no matter where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. The weather are forecast to drop further as wintry showers and strong winds are predicted to affect the north of the country.
Around 10cm of snow could accumulate to have accumulated in some areas by Friday morning, potentially hitting 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Medical Warnings Issued
Meanwhile, serious cold weather health warnings are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to continue until noon on 5 January, with readings expected to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Authorities explained this indicated the weather was expected to lead to major effects across health and social care services. This encompasses a potential rise in the mortality rate among those with health conditions or those 65 and older.
