Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got significant support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Reaction
The manager lamented known weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
