The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
