Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Showdown Versus the Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.
Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their maiden World Series since 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing three runs to one, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, Toronto, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "What an amazing experience."
George Springer has now connected for 23 October home runs, making him third in history behind Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another player anywhere that I want up in that spot except for Springer with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it hurts" in the wake of his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the losing end of this game," he remarked.
Toronto claimed the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
