According to a high-ranking military official, the US military executed a lethal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, killing four people.

“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Surveillance verified the vessel was traveling along a established narco-trafficking route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. A total of four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”

Context and Prior Strikes

This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, vowing to increase the military buildup.

Only on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Actions Amid Pressure

The government has encountered growing demands to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have refused to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a successful operation, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.

While the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs headed to the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to confirm a broader geopolitical aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the president “aims to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
