Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would emerge as a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular series coming to an end—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team opened up about the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and online debates regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“It's like being an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by audience chatter.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Will the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the writers are not listening by fan response, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
