The co-creator of Call of Duty, who helped create the immensely successful first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a traffic collision in the state of California aged 55.

The tragic news was confirmed by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, a game studio he co-founded.

The influential industry figure died after his vehicle was involved in a crash and was engulfed in flames on a highway in Los Angeles on Sunday, US media outlets report.

"We are facing a devastating loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's loved ones, his family, and all those touched by his legacy," an official with Electronic Arts said.
